Location

  • The workshops are run in collaboration with the Saltmarsh Farmhouse, Seven Sisters Country Park, Exceat, Seaford BN25 4AD (www.saltmarshfarmhouse.co.uk)

  • Situated in the beautiful Cuckmere Valley, part of the South Downs National Park, and Dark Sky Reserve.

  • Boasting some of the darkest skies in Southeast England, this is an ideal location to explore night photography for the first time.

Schedule

  • The first workshops are scheduled to run on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd August.

  • 9.00pm - Meet me at the Saltmarsh Farmhouse where I will give a short informative presentation.

  • 10pm – We will be driven to a selected location, then a brief 5 minute walk on some uneven terrain to reach the beach.  We will then spend the next 3 hours learning the essential skills in astrophotography.

  • 1am - We will be picked up and returned to Saltmarsh Farm.

  • **Please note that the schedule will change in the autumn and winter months with an anticipated earlier start time (i.e. 8pm to 11pm).

What you will need to bring

  • Your own camera, which would ideally be a DSLR or mirrorless. Please get in touch if you have any questions as to the suitability of your camera for this type of photography.

  • A tripod is essential for this workshop as we will be taking long exposures.  **Please note spare tripods cannot be provided.

  • Your widest and fastest lens, which will maximise the exposure time needed to capture the detail in the sky and foreground. This can be a zoom or prime lens but ideally has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or wider and a focal length of 24mm or wider (full frame equivalent). Again, please do get in touch if you have any queries on this.

  • Warm clothes – it can get quite chilly late at night even in late summer and early autumn!

  • Good sturdy walking shoes or boots – the terrain, particularly on the beach, can be uneven and it can get wet and muddy along the path leading to and from the beach.

  • A torch as it will be dark!

Cost

  • Night workshop £105 per person

  • Unfortunately, due to the terrain and uneven surfaces this workshop may be unsuitable for those with mobility issues. Please contact me if you have any questions.

  • The workshop does not cover advanced astrophotography techniques such as using star trackers or imaging telescopes.

  • A full refund will be provided in the event of adverse weather conditions (we don’t want cloud!).
